I enjoy using my imagination wherever possible; one of the most rewarding aspects of blacksmithing is when a client gives me free rein to produce a piece of sculputural ironwork for in or outdoor use. This is not necessarily just ornamental, it can be a practical item such as a fireplace or lighting; a small piece of wall art or an ornament for a desk.

 

Most of my pieces tend to be organic, with a nod towards the arts and craft period. Sometimes the client will have an idea of what they want and we can then work together to produce a piece that fulfills their brief. Others only know that they want a piece of wall art for the garden and leave the design up to me.  In either case I will start with a conversation with the client from which I will produce several ideas on paper for them to consider before making the piece to their specification.
